Did you know ...

  1. There are over 27 species of foxes, including the Red Fox, the Gray Fox, the Arctic Fox, the Kit Fox and the Fennec Fox
  2. The Red Fox is the most common species of the foxes and the one most likely to be seen in your garden
  3. Male foxes are known as ‘dogs,’ while female foxes are known as ‘vixens’
  4. When the hunting is good, foxes will bury food for future use.
  5. At birth, red foxes are actually brown or grey.  A new red coat usually grows by the end of the first month.
  6. A baby fox is referred to as a 'kit'
  7. Adult foxes usually chortle ‘wuk...wuk...wuk’ to let their kits know that they have caught some food for them.
  8. Foxes signal each other by making scent posts—urinating on trees or rocks to announce their presence.
  9. The fox is the smallest member of the dog family.
  10. Foxes usually have 4-5 pups, born in the spring.
